    Almonds, honey, orange and candied lemon

    Not just any old gingerbread…

    Its plentiful spices and the generous time given for the mixture to develop its aromas and texture mean that this rectangular biscuit qualifies as a gingerbread. So, what makes it so unique? The precious ingredients used in its recipe: honey, candied citrus fruit, and almonds.

    A little history (and a legend!)

    Originally called the "Basler Läckerli”, which means "Basel Lackerli", this Swiss treat is a gingerbread decorated with sugar icing. Legend has it that it was created under the Council of Basel in the 15th Century. At that time, the city was a buzzing, key point in spice trading, attracting countless artisans from around Alsace, particularly the region's bakers, looking or the best ingredients for their gingerbreads.

    The tales passed down over the years say it was a woman, a certain Elsi, who added in the candied lemon and orange zests to create this elegant take on gingerbread, known as "Lebküchen".

    Our Maison's recipe

    Our Maison's pâtissiers have taken this traditional Swiss creation and put their own, talented twist on it, using only the finest quality ingredients: the dough is enhanced with a decadent mix of almonds and candied orange and lemon peel, and then infused with Grand Marnier. The sugar icing boasts the exquisite particularity of being infused with Kirsch (cherry brandy). Add spices for perfect, subtle harmony.

    flour (GLUTEN), sugar, honey, ALMOND, candied lemon peel 3% (lemon peel 51.7%, glucose-fructose syrup), candied orange peel 3% (orange peel 52.6%, glucose syrup- fructose), kirsch, invert sugar, EGG, glucose syrup, lemon juice, spices 0.55%, Grand Marnier® extract (alcohol, cognac, natural extracts of bitter oranges, coloring: ordinary caramel), dextrose, starch, oil essential: orange.

    All our products are made in a bakery which uses wheat flour (gluten), milk (lactose), eggs, nuts (almond, hazelnut, pistachio, walnut), sesame, soya derivative, peanuts and ingredients which may contain traces of sulphites.
