The Macaron de Riquewihr®: where it all started for our Maison

It was back in 1996 that the first pages of our story were written, in the picturesque Alsace town of Riquewihr, with the tale revolving around a bredele loved by the locals: the Macaron de Riquewihr®. The first biscuit made by our Maison, it naturally forged our identity and earned us our reputation for exceptional quality and craftsmanship in the art of Alsace biscuiterie.

Baked in a traditional oven, our “little fluted domes” exuded an instantly recognisable aroma, laden with notes of warm sugar and coconut, and it wasn’t long before they became cherished favourites amongst our customers. Still baked in-store, using exactly the same recipe: our high standards haven’t waivered once over the past three decades.

Our Maison has taken this solid foundation and used it as a starting point to flex our expertise and creativity, developing the original recipe into new flavours: coconut & chocolate, coconut & pistachio, coconut & banana with chocolate chips, coconut & passionfruit… All of these creations have added to our range without ever compromising on our exacting standards.

There are those flavour combinations that catch your eye and intrigue you at first glance, but then seem like the most natural pairing in the world from the very first bite. This is perfectly demonstrated with coconut and yuzu: this new take on the cherished classic, developed especially for our 30th anniversary, leads you on a flavour journey where you can rediscover our Macaron de Riquewihr® in what may well be its boldest version yet.

Yuzu: an exceptional citrus fruit

Grown in East Asia, yuzu is a rare and prized citrus fruit that combines the tartness of grapefruit with the sweetness of mandarin and the vibrant zesty notes of lemon. With a delicate, floral aromatic profile, yuzu gently tantalises the palate, delivering delicious flavour without overpowering. For a long time, this fruit flew under the radar outside of Japan, but it’s progressively become a must-have ingredient in the world’s most prestigious pâtisseries.

An unexpected pairing

Set against the bright, zesty notes of yuzu, coconut adds its well-rounded, rich sweetness. Together, they form a subtle harmony where the warming sweetness of coconut and the fresh florals of yuzu come together to illuminate each bite with delicious delicacy. A soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture that keeps the indulgence going right to the very last bite…

A new bredele in a limited edition

To celebrate our anniversary, the Coconut & Yuzu Macaron is available as a limited edition in our shops and on our website, until 31 October 2026. A decadent and exclusive way to mark 30 years of delicious craftsmanship with the people who’ve been supporting us from the start, alongside other creations to mark the creations: the Initiation Gift Tin designed by Nana or the anniversary tote bag… Plenty of gestures that stand testament to a shared ambition: to celebrate our heritage with the same bold approach and the same high standards that have been the driving force behind our Maison since 1996.
